Be A Real Beauty Interview
I love making new friends, especially those that feel like we’ve known each other a really long time. When I finally met Renia Carsillo face to face a few months ago it was one of those moments.
Renia was “cyber” introduced to me by my friend and neighbor, Chris Thurow. When you start seeing someone’s Facebook posts and you think ‘I really like her. She’s cool’- that helps out. When we met in person the conversation flowed, our stories of frustration and dreams and drive mirrored one another. She’s a pretty remarkable woman that I was totally inspired by and I think you will be too.
Renia is a published author of three books, with her most recent book titled Born Hungry. (Total writing rock star!) She’s a fellow Mompreneur, passionate about women and when I read this I realized that we were going to be fast friends: “Renia started to imagine what the world would look like if women used their voices to change the conversation about what is important in life, instead of to tear each other down.” That deserves an AMEN.
Yet, it was Renia’s work with her ‘Be a Real Beauty’ program that left me in awe. She has created a movement, and program, to help women embrace who they truly are. She is driven to ensure that every single woman loves who they are and creates a life that mirrors that with passion and enjoyment. I know that women need this work, and need to introduced to amazing women like Renia.
When she emailed me and asked if I would be interested in being interviewed for her ‘Be A Real Beauty’ expert series, I was flattered. I’ll be honest, I struggle with many of the things that Renia is working to empower more women with- positive body image, a healthy relationship with food, exercise and her femininity.
This interview was a first for me. In my former career path I was interviewed in the media often, but I was always representing an organization, mission or topic- not my personal opinions. In this interview, well, I let it all out. It was my first time being interviewed where I shared MY stories, MY life, MY truths and I am really honest. We touched on lots of topics- why I started Sassy, being a feminist Mom to a boy, how we celebrate the holidays, my struggles with body image and weight, my love of yoga and my relationship with my husband, Joe and how critical it is to my life (I was so glad I got to talk about this. He’s pretty damn amazing.)

Thanks for having me, Renia. I’m honored to call you a friend. xo
