Fear 3: Money
‘People don’t have money problems, they have idea problems.”- Randy Gage
Every single person I know who wants a different way of life always brings up money as one of their biggest reasons why they don’t go after it- whatever IT is. Today, I’m not going to give you tips about how to save or get out of debt or any of that because quite frankly, I still have debt. I’m not an expert on that just yet. If you want ‘how-to tips around money, spending, debt or anything in that arena- read Dave Ramsey.
What I am going to tell you is that if you want it bad enough, you have to change your mindset around money and what money means in your life.
In a really timely post, my friends and teachers at Screw the Nine to Five posted a link to an article today that says it better than anything I could say today. James Altucher, who wrote the article, and his writings have changed my mind about many things but especially the art of choosing yourself and build something that YOU own. Go ahead give it a read, but come on back: Here’s What Every 20-Something Needs To Know About Personal Finance
My favorite piece of advice in James’ article is “Find the topic that sets your heart on fire. Then combust.” Sound familiar?
Getting your mind right is the biggest step you can take in your financial future, but it’s also the hardest part. I still struggle with it but it’s a muscle that the more I flex it with knowledge like this, the more the mindset changes. I’m not where I need to be in terms of money, but I’m much better off than I was. In my heart or hearts, I believe. My hustle increases my belief.
I will guarantee that if you think you will never have enough money you won’t. Invest in yourself. Create a side hustle. We live in a time when opportunity is a few clicks away on this amazing internet, but it’s up to you to decide if you want to invest in yourself- whatever that means for you.
One of the greatest teachers I have had on what true prosperity thinking is is Randy Gage. Randy has an amazing life story but his writings and videos about prosperity and the mindset it takes to be rich was a game changer for our family. As Randy puts it, “Your wealth grows exactly at the same rate your prosperity consciousness does.” Give him a read. My favorite post of his of all time is his 50 Secrets of Prosperity.
Sarah Blakely started SPANX with $5,000. Now, she’s a billionaire. She chose herself. If you want to chase a dream but need money to get there, start with your mind.
As for tomorrow’s topic, Randy says it best: “You can watch five to six hours of television a day, or you can be rich, but you can’t do both.”
