Stories: Sacred, Special & Spectacular
“Sharing gives us permission to ask”, she said.
I was on the phone with a woman who is an active member of the Dream Chaser community, a blog reader and an all around badass of the world and she uttered those words…..to me.
It was music to my ears.
Through the sharing of one of my stories she was able to ask me a question that she had always wanted to ask of someone.
What an honor.
Putting your stories out into the world is not the easiest of things to do. Now, it’s not rocket science or brain surgery but it does involve a bit of courage and oftentimes for me, a glass of wine.
In fact, some people may feel that sharing stories is selfish or ego driven.
For me, that is not the case.
Her sentence alone will fuel my courage engine for a very long time.
It has been through the bravery, courage, words (spoken and written) and creativity of other women and men that have allowed me to dig a bit deeper, dream a bit more and sit at the laptop to press publish thousands of times.
Yet, my entire reason for doing it isn’t to appear brave or courageous…….
The entire reason that I share my stories is so that someone who may feel like they have a question to ask or a dream to chase, has a place to come.
My dream is to be a safe place for women to lay their dreams out in front of them and say out loud, ‘I want that.’
Maybe all she needs is an encouraging ear to listen that day.
Maybe she needs to borrow courage for making that first step.
Maybe she needs someone to be her secret keeper to give her dream wings.
Maybe she feels more comfortable sharing her big dream with a ‘stranger’ on the internet than she is with her best friend sitting across the table from her at dinner.
Whatever the reason, that’s why I show up.
Stories are a common thread among all of us that show us that our lives are sacred, special and spectacular.
If it’s showing up on the internet or in person, by sharing our stories with one another it connects us as human beings in a world that makes it hard to feel ok being who we truly are.
As scary as it may seem or feel, the more she show up and share our stories, the more someone else feels less alone.
It is through sharing our unique experiences that we all realize…….we’re not so unique after all.
We’re all connected.
I promise to keep showing up, sharing the stories that make my palms a bit sweaty and pressing publish, but I have to ask a question of you.
Are you ready?
How can you show up and share your stories more in this world?
Someone, somewhere is waiting to hear your story and they don’t even realize that. They have a question that they need permission to dig deeper into and your words could hold the key.
It looks like asking a friend to coffee….
It looks like sending a text saying ‘I know how you feel’…..
It looks like taking the time to look someone in the eye while they speak…..
It’s the small things in life that can break a person’s heart open.
You could be the one to make that a reality.
She’s waiting for you.
